Your tax appointment checklist. Gather what applies to your household, then confirm the details with your chosen tax preparation provider.

01 / You & your household

Original photo identification for you and your spouse, if filing jointly. Social Security cards or applicable ITIN documentation for everyone on the return. Birth dates for you, your spouse, and dependents. Last year’s federal and state tax returns, if available.

02 / Income records

Wage, retirement, and other income statements from every source, including relevant W-2 and 1099 forms. Social Security benefit statements, if applicable. Bank interest and dividend statements.

03 / Helpful details

Bank routing and account details if requesting direct deposit. Childcare expenses and your provider’s tax identification details, if applicable. Marketplace health coverage Form 1095-A, if applicable. IRS or state income transcripts, if applicable.

04 / Confirm before you go

Ask about eligibility, appointment requirements, return types handled, and additional documents. For a joint electronic return, confirm how both spouses will attend and sign.
